Visiting Hundertwasser

7.08 x 10.2 inch, oil crayon on paper

I painted this small picture in Vienna, and it recalls my visit to the Hundertwasser House. It is a tribute to the great artist, whose real name was Friedrich Stowasser but who called himself Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser – the painter of beautiful, colourful worlds, and the architect who built colourful and environmentally friendly houses and who disliked straight lines. Hanging on the walls of his house are not only his impressive paintings, but also his sayings and thoughts; one of his quotes is particularly inspiring for artists: “Art, however, is something religious. A place of devotion, a place of edification, of peace, a place where one receives deep spiritual help, where one rediscovers the right path that one has lost.”
