The Three Graces

Each 7.3 x 6.3 inch, oil on cardboard, € 850 for the set

The Three Graces, as the Charites from Greek mythology are known in their Roman equivalent – AGLAIA (the Radiant), THALIA (the Blossoming) and EUPHROSYNE (the Joyful) – are ‘minor goddesses’ and servants of the principal gods, bringing grace, beauty and joy to both mortals and the gods. Even in antiquity, for example in Pompeii, they were a popular subject in painting and sculpture, and one of the most famous paintings depicting the Three Graces was painted by Raphael during the Renaissance and hangs in the Musée Condé in Chantilly, France. My three ‘globist’ Graces are, from left to right: Aglaia, Thalia and Euphrosyne.
