This painting is one of my most emotional. The desire and need to escape that I/we often feel not only inspired me to paint these inner feelings, but also to capture them in a poem:

We have all been on the run
at some point
or still are
voluntarily
involuntarily
from work
into work
from reality
into illusion
from home
into foreign lands
from poverty
into the ‘Eldorado’
from political despotism
into the rule of law
from inhumanity
into humanity
from religious fanaticism
into true compassion
from war
into peace
from ourselves
to others
from others
to ourselves
