Caspar

31.5 x 47.2, oil on canvas

This painting is a homage to the German painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774 – 1840), one of the main representatives of Romanticism in Germany. His tranquil landscapes, his small forests illuminated by sunlight or shrouded in mist, or iconic works such as the ‘Wanderer above the Sea of Fog’, painted around 1818 and hanging in the Hamburger Kunsthalle, are full of enigmatic, fascinating symbolism.
